Based on the play, Over the Wall Picking Apples. Book and lyrics by Richard Crowe, music and lyrics by Andy Collyer
Born in the same place at the same time, Richard and Elizabeth are two parts of one whole, who must be separated and live in different dimensions if the world is not to implode.
Years later, on a plane destined for the Isles of Outer Kilter, Richard is reunited with Elizabeth, now a flight attendant.
Disaster follows. The plane crashes into Elizabeth’s dimension. The only way off the island will take them through the Sea of Treacle, The Pit of Sin and onto the stage of Mr Sincere’s Game Show. Here, Richard will have to compete for his life and the chance to go home…
An exploration of lived mental health experience, Bipolar, explores the frightening, furious and funny sides of mad.
In February 2020, we started rehearsing a workshop production of the musical with the second year musical theatre students at University Centre Weston. Our first performance was set for Tuesday 24th march. But on Monday 23rd March the country went into lockdown and the show was postponed…indefinitely.
One of the first projects Richard worked on in lockdown was to teach himself the basics of video and audio editing so he could make a documentary about this process and its effect on the production team and the students. The resulting film, Bipolar: Postponed, was broadcast as part of Theatre Nights Digital Edition on 17th June 2020.
